Winner: iModus

This was a highly competitive category again this year. The winning entry, however, is a product which has become one of the most important tools for communication that the industry has at its fingertips. From the product that powers the City of London Police’s “Warn and Inform System”, Vocal’s IModus received this year’s Most Innovative Product award. iModus has made itself a crucial component in some firms’ business continuity plans. With a modular approach to design and implementation, iModus ensures management of staff, controls information flow and aides informed decision making with the minimum financial outlay.

Vital features of the product which impressed the judges include realtime communication through voice, SMS/MMS, paging and email; multi-level permission-based login ensuring data security; historic logs for auditing and measuring performance after an event; and realtime dynamic conference calling, among many others. A major feature of the iModus product is the Warn&Inform system, which was used by the Metropolitan Police to send around 225,000 messages to subscriber businesses and their staff during a 36-hour period at the time of the July 7 bombings in London. This major event also highlighted the inability of most large organisations to account for their staff outside the office. To deal with this, iModus features SafeCall – its PIN-protected staff safety message call system. With map generation and broadcast for pinpointing an incident’s location; and event calendar for advanced event planning; news feeds and live police data and global information; a best practice forum and even helplines for employees, iModus was found by the judges to provide a truly innovative solution to a myriad complex business continuity challenges.
